Walker Whalen, a senior at Indianola High in Iowa, won the boys discus throw with a first-round mark of 191-5 (58.34m) at the 112th Drake Relays Presented by Xtream and Powered by Mediacom and Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Whalen, an Iowa signee, had the three best throws in the competition to become the first Indianola male athlete to win the discus throw in meet history.
